The National Academy of Sciences will be holding a Conference at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY on April 3 and 4, 2013 on New York’s Nanotechnology Model: Building the Innovation Economy, jointly organized by Hudson Valley Community College, the Center for Economic Growth, GlobalFoundries, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  Rensselaer President, Dr. Shirley Jackson will be delivering a keynote address on April 3.  Rensselaer Center for Automation Technologies and Systems Director, Dr. John Wen, and Rensselaer Vice President for Research, Dr. Jon Dordick, will be delivering presentations on April 4.

Dr. Wen's presentation will cover "University-Industry Partnerships for Next Generation Manufacturing" during Panel V: Building Advanced Manufacturing Industries in New York, starting at 1:45pm on April 4. and Dr. Dordick will discuss "Advancing Nano-Biotechnology" during Panel VI: Nanotechnology and Biomedical Sciences, starting at 3:15pm.

The goal of the conference is to engage New York business and political leaders with high-level U.S. government officials and others positioned to help drive innovation, business formation, and growth in New York.  The conference will convene local and national leaders to highlight the accomplishments and growth of the nanotech cluster in the greater Capital Region and its contributions to the innovation ecosystem throughout New York, while also identifying needs, challenges, and opportunities.

The event is the fourth in a series of symposiums held by the National Academy of Sciences to examine state-based policies and initiatives designed to foster innovation-driven economic growth and knowledge-based economies.  The NAS has held similar forums in Hawaii, Arkansas and Ohio.  After each symposium, the NAS publishes a report on the respective state's innovation economy model and distributes that report to a national audience of policymakers and stakeholders.
