at the 2011 CATS Showcase

The Rensselaer Center for Automation Technologies and Systems (CATS) is hosting its annual Technology Showcase and Conference from 2:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, April 23, and 8:00am to 4:00pm on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Hilton Garden Inn - 235 Hoosick Street, Troy, NY.

The annual CATS Technology Showcase and Conference brings together leaders from industry, government and academia for a forum featuring industrially relevant research at Rensselaer CATS and partners in advanced manufacturing, automation and control across a broad spectrum of applications and industries, from clean tech energy and advanced composites manufacturing to aerospace and biotechnology.

This year’s Showcase, entitled Partnership for Manufacturing Competitiveness will highlight university-industry collaborations that are helping to re-invigorate manufacturing as a vital sector in the U.S. economy.  The CATS is expanding the Showcase format to include technical conference sessions on Clean Tech Energy, Robotics in Manufacturing, High Performance Computing in Manufacturing, Advanced Composites Manufacturing, and two business sessions entitled Funding SME Research through SBIR/STTR and NYSERDA and University IP Commercialization.  As with every CATS Showcase, the poster session will feature a broad array of projects and areas of research, and offer an opportunity for networking and one-on-one interaction with student and faculty researchers.  New this year, the CATS will offer guided tours of its research facilities during the afternoon of Monday, April 23.

A highlight of this year's Showcase will be the dinner keynote address on Monday evening, April 23 from Michael Molnar - Chief Manufacturing Officer, U.S. Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology.  Mr. Molnar will discuss recent Federal initiatives to re-invigorate manufacturing as a vital sector in the U.S. economy, including the launch of a public-private effort to design the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI) as proposed in the President's budget for Fiscal Year 2013.  The NNMI will connect research discoveries and budding ideas for tomorrow's technologies and products with the U.S. manufacturers of today, as well as with the start-ups sprouting on the technology horizon.
