From - First Workshop on Manufacturing Innovation Network Prompts Lots of Ideas

About 250 representatives from industry, universities, and other organizations interested in the future of advanced manufacturing in the United States convened in Troy, N.Y., to trade ideas on how best to design and organize a National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI), a $1billion cost-shared program proposed in President Obama’s budget for the next fiscal year.

Hosted by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), the April 25 event, Designing for Impact: Workshop on Building the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation, was the first of several workshops that will be devoted to planning an innovation infrastructure of linked regional hubs of manufacturing excellence, called Institutes of Manufacturing Innovation (IMIs).  President Obama’s proposal calls for creating up to 15 competitively selected, cost-shared IMIs.
