CATS Director John Wen Receives IEEE Control Systems Society Transition to Practice Award

CATS Director and ISE Head John Wen has been selected to receive the 2013 IEEE Control Systems Society Transition to Practice Award.  This prize is awarded by the society to recognize outstanding university-industry collaboration that enables the transition of control and systems theory to practical industrial or commercial systems.  The citation for this award is “Adaptive Scanning Optical Microscopes and a high precision laser scanning system for the electronic manufacturing industry and for translation of systems theory to practice”.

Over 325 Attend Inaugural CATS/CEG Advanced Manufacturing Conference

More than 325 from industry, academia and government attended the inaugural CATS/CEG Advanced Manufacturing Conference: Think Smart, Make Value held on April 16 and 17 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy, NY.  The two-day conference, presented by a partnership between the Center for Automation Technologies and Systems (CATS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the Center for Economic Growth (CEG) brought together leaders from industry, government, and academia to address challenges facing regional manufacturers, and provide a strategic look at emerging ways to leverage the power of automation technologies, business best practices, and take advantage of available state and regional resources to better compete and succeed in the global marketplace.

Smart Manufacturing Coalition-led Project Wins DOE Clean Energy Manufacturing Contract

The Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition (SMLC) today announced that it won a 2013 Clean Energy Manufacturing contract to start developing the nation’s first open smart manufacturing technology platform for collaborative industrial networked information applications. The innovative $10 million project, led by the SMLC, will receive $7.8 million in funding from the U.S. Dept. of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Program.
